Join our campaign to draft Bryan Paterson
Why Bryan? Why Now?
Our campaign is led by a group of proud Kingstonians committed to ensuring the needs and priorities of our friends, family, neighbours, and the broader community are represented in Canada’s next government.
Canada stands at a crossroads, and strong, effective, and trusted leadership is needed more than ever. Fortunately, Kingston is home to a leader who embodies these qualities: Bryan Paterson.
Bryan has dedicated the last 14 years to public service on Kingston City Council, serving one term as a city Councillor and now in his third term as mayor. This is a testament to the trust and confidence Kingstonians have in his leadership.
Under Bryan’s stewardship, Kingston has:
- Experienced significant growth and development.
- Realized long-standing priorities like the Third Crossing.
- Attracted strong investment and positioned itself as a hub for innovation.
With a federal election coming soon and the Conservative Party of Canada poised to form a strong majority government, now is the time for Kingston to have a voice at the table. Bryan’s track record of leadership and his deep understanding of our city’s needs make him uniquely qualified to advocate for Kingston on Parliament Hill.
What We Need to Do:
To achieve this vision, we need to:
- Convince Bryan to seek the nomination as the Conservative Party of Canada candidate for Kingston and the Islands.
- Support him in winning the nomination contest.
- Work together to help him win the federal election and represent Kingston in Ottawa.
Take the next step

Is Bryan running to become our MP?
We hope to convince him to run in the next federal election, which will take place no later than October 2025. He has not currently committed to running.
Who is Bryan Paterson?
Bryan Paterson is currently serving his third term as Mayor of Kingston. He’s a former city councillor and is also a professor of economics at Royal Military College. He is married with two children. More information about Bryan and his accomplishments can be found on the City of Kingston’s website.
You can also see updates on some of his priorities at mayorpaterson.com.
Would Bryan remain the mayor if he seeks the nomination?
Typically, politicians running for a different political office would take a leave from their existing office in order to campaign.
Should Bryan secure the Conservative nomination and win the seat in a federal election, there would need to be a byelection to replace him as mayor for the balance of his term (less than two years). While it would mean the loss of a great mayor who has served his community well, this would put Bryan’s knowledge and experience to work serving Kingston in a different way.
What must happen for Bryan to become the nominee?
We must first convince Bryan that there is enough support for a successful campaign. This would be demonstrated through Conservative Party of Canada membership sales within the Kingston and the Islands riding, donations to the local Conservative Party of Canada Electoral District Association (EDA) to support a future campaign, and pledges to volunteer.
If we convince Bryan, he would then need to be selected as the candidate by the members of the local Conservative EDA. Party members residing in the riding of Kingston and the Islands can vote in a nomination contest to decide who their nominee will be. The timeline for the nomination contest has not yet been announced but will occur before the next election.
Who is involved in this campaign to draft Bryan to run for the nomination?
This campaign is organized by a group of local Kingstonians who want to see the needs and priorities of our friends, family, neighbours, and all those we care about represented in Canada’s next government. We are a broad coalition of people of many different political stripes, united by our belief that we need strong, effective, and trusted leadership on Parliament Hill following the next election. We invite you to join us and pledge your support.
When will the nomination contest occur?
The timing of the Kingston and the Islands Conservative candidate nomination contest will be decided and announced by the Conservative Party of Canada and their local EDA.
When will the next federal election be?
The current federal government is a minority government and could, theoretically, fall at any time.
The election is supposed to occur no later than October 20, 2025, though the federal Liberals and NDP are currently attempting to delay the election by one week.
Do I live in Kingston and the Islands?
The current boundaries can be found on Elections Canada’s website.
Please note the Kingston and the Islands riding boundaries are changing for the 2025 election and will be expanding to reflect the full City of Kingston boundaries as well as the Township of Frontenac Islands. However, the new boundaries do not formally go into effect until the election. This means only residents of the current boundaries of the Kingston and the Islands federal riding who are members of the Conservative Party of Canada will be eligible to vote in the nomination contest.
Do I have to be a Conservative party member to support this campaign?
No. In fact, we have past and current members of three different federal parties supporting our campaign. A Conservative Party of Canada membership will only be necessary to vote in the nomination contest.
